Marxism for Organizers & Activists

Registration is closed for this event
A popular education clinic where organizers will develop a foundational understanding of Marx’s theory and critique of capitalism, explore expansion and applications of Marxism by movements and revolutionaries, and reflect on how to apply Marxism to liberatory movement work today.

As wealth inequality increases sharply during a pandemic, poverty and policing become ever more severe, and fascism on the rise, many organizers recognize the need to return to foundational understandings of capitalism, exploitation, and power to better understand and respond to the current moment. In this clinic, organizers will have the chance to work through baseline Marxist concepts in community with other organizers and discuss their application in today’s conditions.

Together we will explore examples of movements and revolutions that have applied, adjusted, and expanded Marxism in their time and place and end the clinic with space to brainstorm how to apply Marxism to our practices and strategize where we might go from here.

There will be time for organizers to connect, collaborate, brainstorm, and put their understanding of Marxist theory to work in their organizing spaces. Participants will have the chance to think through problems in their current organizing spaces with a Marxist lens and support each other through applying Marxist principles to their work.
